Are Repetitious Tasks Hurting Your Business? RPA to the Rescue!
October 2, 2017
Robotic Process Automation continues to generate excitement for its ability to automate the necessary, repeatable tasks required for your business processes. We’re already seeing organizations reporting strong ROI in terms of time-savings and reduced costs.
So how does deploying RPA equate to extra time and money? The answer lies in the nature of the types of tasks that RPA eliminates.
These tasks are all currently performed manually, making the results necessarily prone to error, risk, and variation. This, in turn, translates to wasted time and money in a variety of ways, including:
- Productivity – Employees can spend up to 20% or more of their time performing repetitive tasks.1 Worse, highly paid knowledge workers spend 40% of their time, or more in some cases, just looking for and organizing information.2 Eliminating repetitive tasks for dozens or even hundreds of employees frees them to tackle more meaningful and higher value activities. With RPA, organizations instantly increase productivity.
- Responsiveness – Employees who spend time on tedious activities have less time to spend fulfilling requests from customers or colleagues. Customers must wait longer for service, and co-workers face unnecessary delays in performing their duties. Accenture reports that 50% of all consumers have left a vendor over poor customer responsiveness at a combined cost to business of $1.5 billion.3 RPA eliminates these tasks, so all employees become more responsive, and businesses perform better.
- Accuracy – Humans are error prone. In fact, the Institute of Robotic Process Automation found that when asked to perform 100 steps, ten will contain errors. Think about data entry for example. RPA eliminates the potential for human error during data entry and transfer. With RPA, there’s no chance of rekeying error which translates to 100% data accuracy.
This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Manual tasks can block an organization from achieving at least ten key success metrics. The good news is that RPA solutions are easy to implement and address each of these issues.
