What is Digital Asset Management?
November 3, 2016
Digital asset management, abbreviated “DAM,” refers to a business’s ongoing organization of its media assets that are in digital format. Assets can include videos, images, audio, and other files that are transferable through computer systems. Efforts covered in the management process may include taking digital assets and storing them, distributing them, cataloguing them, annotating them, and converting them, along with other measures. The goal is to present digital assets in the highest quality possible – including high-resolution (images/video) and high fidelity (audio).
Using A DAM System to Organize Your Digital Assets
Managing digital assets manually can be complicated. Files, for example, can become misplaced, distributed in the wrong format, or take too long to transfer. Such problems, however, can be addressed through the utilization of a DAM System. DAM software makes all digital asset management available through one centralized user interface. From there, users can easily consolidate their digital files, organize them appropriately, find them more efficiently when they’re needed, and send them to the correct recipients.
Without a doubt, digital media assets play a critical role in a company’s marketing efforts – no matter the industry. Simply said, it’s about getting the right digital media to the right people on time, and in the highest quality possible.
Targeting Different Markets
Rich media distribution can also play an important role in targeting different markets – whether throughout the world, or on a national scale. While one graphic may be designed to appeal to prospective customers in the U.S. Midwest, that same graphic may be adjusted to better appeal to prospective customers in other parts of the country.
A DAM System, therefore, assures that you have all your markets covered with the correct digital assets. In addition to marketing, digital assets may play an important role in company efforts including:
- Sales
- Operations
- Human resources
- Accounting
- Corporate Communications
- Executive Communication
